This Question From Baby Showers | 4 Answers
I have questions about baby showers that I can seem to find the answer to. Please help.
When are the party favor bags given out, when the guest arrives or when they’re leaving? And what is in the bag, just candy or other stuff as well? Do you give prizes for the games and if so what are some examples of the prizes? How many games should be played? Which one comes before the other: games or the food? Does the food have to be a fancy dish or what would be simple yet appropriate to serve?
Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

I have been planning my shower with my mom as well and everybody keeps telling me that if you give prizes away you dont need to give parting gifts if you want to cut the budget a bit. You dont need to play too many games, maybe 2-4 depending on how long the party is and how many people are coming. I would serve food while they are playing games but not do the cake til after the gifts are opened. You can do simple food for the shower… My shower is having baked chicken, potato salad, fruit salad, BBQ, meat n cheese tray, baked mac n cheese, rice n beans, devilled eggs and things like that… it depends on what time ur having the party… Again if u want to cut budget you could make it like a “tea party baby shower” type thing and just serve “appetizers” if its like after breakfast but before lunch type of timing. If cost means nothing and u have no real budget then you could go with all different types of foods that way theres something for everyone but they can kind of eat what they want or try it all. You could always do something like set up chips, pretzels, lunch meat, and cheese and have them make their own subs or something…not too expensive but kind of creative. There’s really no way to go wrong with anything u do at a baby shower. People will show up and have fun regardless of the food, or parting gifts…I hope this helped!
BTW If u need some help with some games they are easy to find on the web… I am playing the ice cube game because I am having a male/female shower…You put little plastic pacifiers or something of that sort in water and freeze it, the guests have to suck on it til they get to the pacifier… The men enjoy the game more then the women lol….
Also if ur looking for cute ideas, then you could always start the babies first piggy bank at the shower, tell the guests to bring spare change and start the babies piggy bank.
I am also going to have a table with diapers and permanent markers on the table for all the guests to write a message on the outside of the diaper for me to read when I change the baby’s diaper in the middle of the night… that way I will have something to smile about when I can barely open my eyes…
I hope my suggestions helped a bit. I know I got a bit out of control with them, but I know how it is planning showers! It gets stressful! Good luck!
I have never gone to a baby shower that gave out gift bags….forget the gift bags. And….2-3 games should be enough. The prizes can be sooo simple like a nice jar with hard candy in it, scented candles, a $5 giftcard to Walmart, or McDonald’s. Of course, have a baby shower cake, chips and dip, fruit punch, finger sandwiches, crackers and cheese. I would allow everyone to eat and drink first before playing games and opening presents. Make the shower as fun and simple as possible. Good luck!!!
When everyone gets there have a sign in book or you could have them sign bibs. Next to that but the favors so they will get it right away. I don’t know how many guest you are planning or your budget but you could do candy or little hand soaps. I have gotten the smaller lotions at Bath and Body Works or you can go to the dollar store and see if they have any little things that would work for you. I would only do 2 games most ppl don’t like them anyways. You want to do games first then feed ppl and then when she is opening gifts pass out the cake. Simple finger foods are great. Last one I did I made a pasta salad that had meat and cheese in it, a fruit salad, bread with oil and vinegar on the tables, a platter of mozzerella cheese with basil and tomatoes. Then I had a cake, coffee, water, and lemonade. Another one I did I did little sandwiches and a fruit and veggie platter with a pasta salad. I have done several so if you have any questions email me.
