Any Suggestions For Different Family Supper Ideas?

This Question From Family Ideas | 6 Answers

THE POST:

I pretty much have kept to the same for the last number of years; spaghetti/meatballs/porkchops rice/potatoes/tacos/meatloaf/casseroles, etc, I’m looking for some new ideas for my family, I have two teenagers and a 2 year old.

1 – Kielbasa (polish sausage) Slice it length-wise & boil it in Lemon-Lime Soda (like a Sprite) Then serve it over rice with some steamed carrots or broccoli.
2 – Coca Cola Chicken, take some chicken breasts & boil them down slowly in a can of coca cola, the soda caramelizes & its really good! If it gets too thick just add some water until the chicken is done. Serve it with a baked potato.
3- Shake & Bake Pork Chops or Chicken w/ some veggies & potatoes.
4- Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes & Gravy
5-deviled drumsticks, take drumsticks & bake them @ 350 for about35 minutes. Take them out, cool off, remove the skins, then roll them in honey that has been whipped in lemon juice, then roll them in crushed corn flake crumbs (the cereal) then wrap a strip of bacon around each & return the pan of chicken to the oven @ 350 & bake for an additional 40 mins. These are Fantastic! Your kids will LOVE THEM!

Think outside the box-meatless meals, dinner salads, different cuisines. Instead of spaghetti with meatballs, how about farfalle with pesto and sauteed veggies? Instead of tacos, how about pollo con arroz? Stir fry. Homemade soup. Chicken and dumplings. Make a traditional holiday dinner for a Sunday. If your family likes fish there are endless possibilities there.

Curried Broccoli And Cauliflower Soup Recipe
    Ingredients
    1 Tbs olive oil
    2 cloves garlic, chopped
    1 cup yellow onion, diced
    1 lb broccoli florets
    1 lb cauliflower florets
    1 1/2 tsp curry powder
    5 cups vegetable broth
    2 cups plain yogurt
    1/8 tsp nutmeg, ground
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp pepper
    Directions
In a large soup pot, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and sauté garlic and onions until translucent.
Add broccoli and cauliflower florets and about 2 tablespoons of the vegetable broth to generate steam.
Place lid on pot, reduce heat to medium, and steam vegetables for about 5 minutes.
Add curry powder and remaining broth. Simmer until vegetables are very tender, about 15 minutes.
Once cooked, ladle broth and vegetables into a blender and puree until smooth.
Return to soup pot, heat over medium heat, and gradually whisk the yogurt and seasonings into the soup.
Once combined, do not bring to a boil to prevent the yogurt from curdling. Serve warm.
Note: Make sure to let the soup cool a bit before adding yogurt so the yogurt does not curdle. You can also add whole broccoli florets as seen in the photo.

How about some Asian stir frys? You can get bags of frozen oriental mixed vegetables, cut chicken or beef into small strips, quickly fry in a small amount of oil with garlic and ginger, toss in the frozen veggies to heat, and make quick sauces with some chicken stock, soya, a little cornstarch to thicken, and I love oyster sauce for flavour.
You don’t need a wok, you can make in a large skillet. Serve over rice or asian noodles.
