Is it wierd that two of my favorite musical artists are completely different styles?

My two favourite artists are jimi hendrix and eminem. Is it wierd to have 2 favorite artists of completely different genres.

I think the worst thing for me it my ultra sensitivity around people. I’ve always been the same and it never gets any easier. If you have the artistic personality you will know what I mean! Too much to handle.

Or perhaps you are an artists and are easy in the company of others and your artistic nature helps in your relationships ?

Do you mean Autistic? Anyway just because your shy that doesnt mean your an Emo and if you want to talk about your feelings I do not see a problem with that. Anyway why do people bother being mean when it’s just as easy to be nice (I’m referring to other answers) anyway I am awkward around people I dont know to, but once I get to know them everything works out OK

I don’t believe in an ‘artists personality.’ After spending years around writers and such I have found that often they replace ‘intelligent’ or ‘insight’ for ‘artistic’ and ‘sensitive.’

I’ve heard artsy types praise Sylvia Plath for her work, and even for her death, because she was so creative and insightful. They ask questions as to what her work would have been like if she hadn’t had mental health problems. I know what she’d have been… happy. Who cares if it would have affected her work she’d have been happy!

I find a lot of artist types think they’re sensitive and this helps them with their work. I find a lot of artistic types think they have a mental problem because of this. I have seen a fair few who wear the label of depression as a ‘badge of honor’ because it simply goes to prove how sensitive they are!

Being sensitive isn’t a sign of an artistic personality. There is no artistic personality. What makes an artist is TALENT and you don’t have to be sensitive in order to create! I wish artists would stop with all their arrogant pretentiousness because it really is quite self-indulgent.

How to book music artists for an event?

We are currently planning a event and we could like to know the ins and outs of making deals with musical artists.
Such as different kinds of financial deals you can agree and put forth in the deal.
And other things that might need to be considered in the deal like travel arrangements.

Usually you just pay them to show up, but there are cases where they’ll play for free initially and take a percentage of the gross made on ticket sales (if it’s an event that requires tickets). To score a musician, just email them (the email will usually go to their agent) who will in turn work out a deal with you. Good luck!

What is the best web space / blog site for visual artists?

I would like to set up a simple web page primarily to display my paintings and drawings, without a load of busy fuss and advertising getting in the way. I have tried myspace but it is not really what I want, as people have to be members to view my pics. Can anyone recommend a good image-friendly web service that could be used as a home page without the hassle of writing html? What do other artists out there use? Thanks!

The saatchi gallery website is great – something like my sattchi, but if you type in saatchi onyahoo, the official site is the first one to pop up. People put their films or paintings/sculptres etc.. up online, you write a bio on yourself and explain the work, all for free, and with the great name and link of saatchi!
People have been known to pay thousands for works on that site. It’s worth a go!

a visual artist did a Cure video called head on the door,in about 1987.It combines claustaphobia,fear of heights,death,drowning and probably suicide as it looks like beachy head.The band start off performing in a cramped wardrobe at the top of a cliff.

If you are looking to talk to a specific artist, normally they have emails on there websites. It sometimes has to go through a 3rd party person, but it can work! Might as well give it a try.

Dana Schutz might be relevant. She did a series of paintings about Frank, the last man on earth. The premise was basically that Frank was the last man alive and Schutz was painting him.

Georgia O’Keeffe would be a possibility: most of her desert paintings convey a sense of isolation within limitless space.

Warren Zevon mentioned her in his song ‘Splendid Isolation’.
