How long do you get off work during christmas in the construction industry?

I am currently working in construction as a labourer and with christmas coming up i was wondering how long do building sites shut down for? Is it only christmas day and boxing day, or do they break up longer like a week? Cheers

They normally get about 10 days.

well i would say its usually if the building site is on time or behind schedule with how long you may have off, it also depends of snow ect..

It really depends on current project deadlines and weather. Normally December is a pretty slow time of year in residential construction.

What should I cook on Christmas day?

I want to make the traditional roast turkey, but any recipes and side dishes such as brussel sprouts and parsnips would be great! Also, I am not sure what to make for a starter. If I have made a Christmas pudding, do I need to add alcohol, or can I leave it for 2 months wrapped in cling film? Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated!

How do I keep a christmas tree living?

Ok here we go…..
I bought a potted living spruce tree for a outside Christmas tree.
However i have discovered it has very little roots, and this is not being helped by the high winds which are disturbing the roots and making it blow over and out of the pot!
So i have tied it up from all sides in the hope that will support it.
Any tips on how to keep it alive and how to encourage more root growth?
Ok just to verify this is NOT a cut tree but a rooted tree.

Also it has been repotted into a very large pot, and is staying outdoors.
it has had a a good soaking and feed of very good fertiliser

you can break up baby asprin and put it in the water. it sounds weird but it works.

you can get root powder that stimulates growth. ask at a garden center they will be able to advise you.

I have a tight budget, but would still love to give my family, boyfriend, and a few of my friends a nice christmas gift. I would love to make or do something for them they would appreciate, but I want it to be unique. I’ve heard all the “Give them tokens” etc before, and although it is a lovely idea, its not ideal for my close ones. Any ideas appreciated!

well making bath bombs for your mum normally works, or homemade chocolates or cookies go down really well and are cheap.

Assuming a non-unique idea someone else has used is OK, how about making a big batch of Christmas biscuits and giving everyone some? Or you could make table decorations, if you have access to some basic greenery – candle in the middle supported by a bit of oasis in a coffee jar lid, stick sprays of greenery into the oasis to decorate. Orange pomanders – oranges, cloves and ribbon.

I was at Kohl’s yesterday and saw necklaces with initials and other stuff on them. They were really pretty and about $ 8.00. I love getting stuff like that.

How do i send a christmas card within kenya?

I want to send a christmas card to relatives in Kenya. Previously i have done this using Royal Mail and invariably they arrive torn and opened, obviously mail officials looking for money etc, if they arrive at all. Recorded signed for get the same treatment and then are returned as “uncollected”. I would like to use an online service to design a card, write a message and then post it inside Kenya. THey don’t normally intercept internal mail, but i can’t find a service to do this.

Design the card using any program – at worst the free Microsoft Paint, and send it as a mail attachment. Or scan a card and do the same.

Yes send a mail attachment or write on the outside of the card you are an American Prince who has been left a large sum of money and if these people ( your family ) cash a check for you – you will give them a hefty sum!

Sorry to hear of your problems. I’ve been in Kenya for 6 years now, and have never had a problem receiving mail.

Perhaps check our Mama Mikes site. If I remember correctly you can order stuff for people in Kenya on that site.

3′ – 5′ isn’t a very tall Christmas tree, you could probably grow one this tall in about 4 or 5 years.

Plant it in the ground in a large pot then it will come up easily when you want to use it make sure that the soil is at the same level in the pot as the ground.

How good is the Christmas Habitat sale for sofas?

I have seen a (utah) sofa in Habitat that I really like but wondering whether I should hold on till the Christmas sale. Does anyone remember from previous years what the typical percentage is that they might reduce a sofa by? Do they put most of their stock in the sale or only lines that they are discontinuing?
