I have been suffering from depression for some time, and my friends who I told recently suggested talking to people about it, and said forums would be a starting point. Can anyone give me some help as to where to go? Thanks!

Answer by Harry
www.4chan.org/b

Answer by Alex
This isn’t a forum, but it is a website that teaches you cognitive behavior skills. It’s kind of like a web work book thing that helps you find new ways of thinking instead of dwelling. It’s free by the way.

http://moodgym.anu.edu.au/welcome

I hope it helps!

Answer by phillip b
talking can help –depends however what is paramount is to choose your healing route—— carefully– be really aware that the druggs/meds treatment for this can be horrendous and you can go on for years with no improvement and massive damaging detrimental side effects from meds . Do read this very carefully and try and understand the principles behind what is being said .
Evaluate all of this info well –this info will save you years of suffering —years if you apply it ..
All treatment recommended by the doctors should be tested and approved and quite rightly so.
That makes sense right .it costs millions to test and approve treatments because of the possible damage to people..
Drug companies Fund most research and will only and I mean only look at treatments, which show the promise of good deal of a profit, –they will actively dismiss any therapy which does not have profit potential— thus your doctor will only recommend therapies with profit potential in them.
Despite The fact that some of these other therapies mentioned do have overwhelming benefits some, which have saved needless amputations, needless pain and trauma, and much loss of life. Drugs are not the answer for depression with mind altering chemicals or any other mental illness. This is a fundamental principle and unless you grasp this fully –you could /will have years of suffering ahead of you .
This does not help you though when you are ill and suffering—not hearing about therapies which can help from a person you look up to and trust Have you heard your local doctor recommend, Massage Spiritual healing, Herbs, Light therapy,Colour therapy, the violet ray therapy, Osteopathy, Electrical Frequency devices.
These therapies will work for many complaints of a so called mental nature
we have thousands of testimonials and results showing years of successful applications
Do this and I will guarantee improvements to you inside a day its that simple, of course getting these things in place can be much harder. Each therapy can have a very beneficial influence on you.
Print this all off save it and enact it and share it — of course someone to help you get these therapies in your life is invaluable but do not be swayed by them trying for short cuts ….
1,get someone to massage your back and legs at least 3 times a week use peanut oil or a mix of 50-50 olive and peanut oil.
2 use the violet ray machine an Edgar Cayce device google search this — 3 times a week on the other days especially on the spine….we use it every day with very positive results
3.get a tent sleep out side 3times a week utilising earth energy – nature can help big time especially with how you feel how much energy you have
4 study and apply good nutrition– adequate minerals all of them particularly calcium and magnesium iron essential fatty acids omega 3 6 9 protein etc
5 ensure your thyroid is working well
7 ensure you do at least I hr per day some kind of voluntary work when you are able..the reasons you are ill , or poor or have allsorts of bad things happen to you is because of karma —–usually from past lives but some from this one –voluntary work will offset your mistakes— how much it offsets well that is down to god and how much you do. Healing us is in direct proportion to the help we give others ie your healing comes with helping others achieve theirs so if people are doing very little in helping others —they suffer more and longer…and if they are doing a lot they get well faster….so now you know what to do ,,and like a lot of us are already doing being of service.
8 be amongst people who are giving, friendly who have time for you who love you , choose your friends well
9 be or get to a place which personally love or like
10 get and do some work which you like or love
11 ensure you do no acts which hurt or inflict on anyone –don’t want to add to your karma do we !!!
12 spiritual healing yes and reiki -.
13think good positive thoughts, laughter, look at comedy, play good uplifting music,
14 avoid at all costs exposure to violence, murders, suffering ,death ,tragedies, -feed upon good things uplifting things, things that feel like a breath of fresh air..
15 Positive affirmation- that’s right programme your self in the mirror , thoughts are things words are things actions are things , all have influence, few people realise these things can have an effect on themselves .
16 a detox —— toxins can influence how you feel big time
17 hugs get plenty of them in your daily life you would be amazed at how people feel after a few decent hugs….
18 loads of exercise running walking climbing but something which you enjoy
19 rid yourselves of all aspartame laden foods and drink and many additives get back to a wholesome organic diet diet
A total cure however is tied up with karma so you can imagine just how important is the voluntary work.

what causes depression to by the way and how does hypnosis help a person to come out of it?

please explain how it works.

Thanks for your answers!

Answer by 3kangelt80
Yes it can. I use hypnosis for pain.

It’s just a very very relaxed state of mind and allows for your body to readjust or “start over”. With guides from the psychologist or doctor, they can help with altering the way you think or perceive things, but it is mostly a SELF thing. YOU have to be committed to change, want to change, want to be happier and make every effort to try to do that as well.

It’s not like you see on TV or magic.

I love it.

Answer by Voter420
Hypnosis has helped people in the past but each individual is diffrent. Hypnosis works through the power of suggestion. If a therapist tells you that you are not depressed while you are in a trance, you may no longer be depressed. It’s as simple as that. I hope this helps!

Answer by psychologist_4u
Depression usually falls into two categories, major [ clinical ] and minor [ of varying degrees ]. Clinical depression is a brain chemistry problem and generally requires medication + counseling. Finding the cause of minor depression is more complex and depends on many factors e.g. it can be anger turned inward, often coupled with guilt. For instance you could be angry towards your parents and feel guilty about this. Hypnosis can help uncover the root [ subconscious ] cause of the depression/ anger/ guilt. Only when one has an understanding of the underlying cause can it be tackled by therapy, possibly C.B.T.

A close friend of mine has depression which has gotten really bad recently. She self harms, doesn’t leave the house and has told me she’s contemplated suicide a few times. I’ve told her to see a therapist, which she’s doing and is now on prozac but she’s become so miserable recently that she’s completely shut herself off from the world. She hates humanity and rarely speaks to me anymore. I don’t want to give up on her because she’s an extremely important friend, but I don’t know what else I can do.

Answer by Metal is win ^^
Go over to her place.. Or go out for movies or whatever.. Have fun keep her busy.. Show her how much she means to ya.. Depression is a hard time and she definitely needs ya.. Even if she tries to push you away be there to help her.

Answer by Zafi Robertson
you should just let her talk it out with someone if she doesn’t want to alk to you she won’t tell you cause it would be rude but sometimes people act that way to get attention as no one really cares sometimes…

Answer by Guadalupe Jimenez
Always remember to tell your friend you are there for them even if they dont need your help keep on insisting… A person never really knows what to say to a depressed person just listen to their problems and let them take it all out…

what is it with drinking water espeically that helps releive depression? how long it takes to do this and how this works?

do people not drink enough water? why not? and for how long been this way and why?

Answer by ??G?AC3??
that is not a treatment for true clinical depression. That is caused by seratonin imbalances in the brain and drinking water and healthy eating can’t fix that.

Answer by Jesmer
yet it may increase happy hormone levels and exercises too..learning a new hobby will aslo help u be motivated and drink atleast 8 glasses a day

Answer by Frank
People who are depressed tend to either eat too much (usually junk food) or not enough.

Feeling bloated from junk doesn’t help things, and eating better helps people feel better.

It also gives people something to focus on, a first step. First, you drink water. Then you eat better food. Then you start attacking the thing that feels so helpless.

Dehydration itself is not linked to depression, but many people have latched onto the “more water is better” bandwagon, even though the scientific evidence is that you need 8 cups of water a day. (Which all started with a single nutritional article that measured fluid intake.)

Mind you, that’s 8 cups, not eight glasses. Your drinking glasses probably hold more than 1 cup of water. And the water in the food you eat counts toward that 8. But once an article moves into legends and urban myths, suddenly the truth fades and people think you should drink 8 glasses of water a day. And they figure that if 8 is good, 10 must be better.

Actually, too much water will cause an imbalance in your electrolytes (sodium, calcium, and potatassium), which is not good for your neurons, especially the nerves in your heart. Too much water will kill you. (It is called water intoxication).

I have recently been discussing through email a teenage friends feelings of depression. We are not close but he has turned to me for support. As a sufferer of depression in the past I can sympathise but am unsure as to what to do for the best. He claims to be suicidal and i’m scared for him. He feels patronised by doctors and I have been unsucessful in persuading him to seek medical help.

I know someone that is 15 1/2 struggling with near-suicidal depression who lives in the U.K., whose grandmother won’t sign the prescription or proper help for it, although she wants it. By any chance, is it possible for someone to get aid before turning 16, like with medicine or something? Thank you very much if you can tell me.

Answer by David MacBryde
First off, you don’t want to end up on prescription meds, they just mask the problem, sometimes they are better for a short term solution, but therapy would probably be the best option. I was very depressed when I was about 13/14 and was self harming most days and I wanted to get on meds, but I was talked out of it and I’m glad I didn’t end up on anti depressant. Just talk to them about other options first.

Answer by Sophie Pechkaytis
If she can get down to her doctors then she should be able to get help there. If not then connexions, or something close to it, as they can help as well. If all else fails, get her to talk to someone who can help in school. If it is as bad as you say, then there should be no reason for her to not be able to get help. Anti-depressants can be prescribed by the doctor, and as she is still in full time education she can get them for free and she has to sign for them as they are hers. I would suggest going to the doctors first as it would probably be more beneficial and are more than likely to have more success than anywhere else. – Hope i helped. x

Answer by ? Wild-@-Heart ?
From my own experience..

Iv been through alot of things, bad things which have made me really depressed. Im only 17 years old, i went to the doctor and although they arent `ment` to prescribe you anti depressents it is only because people thinks its socially not acceptible, My doctor said that they can and will prescribe something depending on how bad the patient is. It is then up to the patient to hand it to the pharmacy + sign it. The adult/carer has no say in this as it is all confidential and the patient may not feel like they can talk to this person about things.

If you want to know anything else, please dont hesitate to get in touch.

She Told Me Earlier That She Hates Everything About Herself And Wishes She Was Dead, I’ve Told Her Over And Over Again That She’s Not Fat But She Just Dosen’t Listen, Please Help.
She’s 15, 5’3 And Weighs 9 And Half Stone.

Answer by okiegirltoo
The best advice you can give you is to get her to go to a doctor. Don’t try pop psychology that you will get on here. Also, I would suggest you stop capitalizing every word you write. It is very disconcerting and will not help you when you try to get a job or get into a good school.

Answer by TaylorRenee
Try to get her to see a doctor, take her out to have some fun, get her mind off of all of those things, find ways to raise her sel-esteem.
=)

Answer by Nickelodeon
Not using categorical words like ‘ginger’ and ‘emo’ are a start. Frankly, you’ve been supportive thus far though but only she can truly change her attitude and outlook. She may need occasional reassurance but until she can look in the mirror and be satisfied with what she has, all you can do is be there to listen.
