ive put on half a stone since september (when i had to suspend my gym membership for 2 months)
so now im a stone n 1/2 over weight

any tips?
i can go back 2 the gym from saturday.

Answer by wendy_da_goodlil_witch
write down what you eat before you eat it. it helps you keep track of what you eat and helps you decide if you really need to eat that or could you drink some water instead. eat several small meals throughout the day. just 300 to 400 calories each or divide your daily calories into 5 meals. I think once you start back at the gym, you should get back on track without anything extra.

Answer by fslvmklsjmgklmz
drink lots of water

Answer by Health Guy
If you want to lose weight, you need to two things: eat less and exercise more. Weight gain happens when you create a calorie surplus (eat more than you burn). Your body takes the excess calories and converts them to fat which get stored around your stomach, arms and thighs. The longer you remain in a calorie surplus, the more weight you’ll gain. To lose that weight, you need to do the opposite. You need to create a calorie deficit (start eating less than you burn).

Your first step is to figure out how many calories you burn on a daily basis. This calculator will help you out http://calorieneedscalculator.com The number you get from this tool is what your body burns on a daily basis. To lose weight, simply eat less. It sounds a lot easier than it is but making small changes helps you adjust to a new lifestyle. Don’t think of this as a diet, think of it as a new life. Instead of eating foods high in sugars, white flour and saturated fat, go with fruits, vegetables, whole wheats, fish, lean meats, nuts and beans. In addition to eating less, you also need to exercise more. Start off at 1-2 times per week and work your way up to 3-5 times per week.

Don’t make all of these changes at once or you won’t be able to properly adjust to them. Generally, eating healthier foods will decrease your calorie intake. Compare a doughnut to an apple and you’ll see that healthy foods are lower in calories. You can find some more information at the Beginner’s Guide to Dieting – Beginner’s Guide to Dieting – http://straightdiet.com

i do not wish to make my dog aggressive.

Answer by Deb C
Why do you want to do that is probably a better question?

Answer by Shelby A
I am an owner of a pitbull (which is basically the same breed) and they have naturally good physiques. We walk her daily and she plays with our other dog all day and stays in perfectly good shape. She is basically pure muscle. I don’t know if we could get her to put on fat if we tried! As for training, we just use consistancy and treats. As a breed they are very eager to please their owners so training shouldn’t be difficult at all. It really depends on what you are trying to train them to do.

Answer by Lucy B
I know what you mean. My mates staff is not walked often and has a poor diet and thus less muscle definition. Good exercise, regular stimulation and a well planned diet and lifestyle are great for helping dogs keep in shape and with this his natural physique will improve.

I’m moving back to Uni in just under a month and would really like to lose some weight! I’m currently visiting a gym frequently and eating lots of salads. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good exercises or foods which help you lose weight quickly, such as speeding up your metabolism?? Any advice would be great!!

Answer by diannah
xenical…….. will help you lose weight. it doesnt allow your body to absorb the fat consumed in your diet

Answer by David C
The only way to speed up your metabolism is to build more muscle. I often wonder why everyone is in such a rush to lose weight. Safe weight loss takes time, patience and perseverance. Please be safe and eat from the food pyramid, the way the experts would have you do.

Answer by inquisitive
You need a regular intake of protein and water, as the body can’t store these for very long, that plus regular exercise will stoke up your metabolic furnace and burn fat, even in rest.

im 14 and really need to loose weight, im obsessed with chocolate, cakes, pizza and things like that but whenever i try to stop i find it impossible. What can i do to motivate myself and stop!

Answer by Katy
I’m having a similar problem, at the same age. What I’m trying to do is not eat anything after 6:30, because I find when everyone else has gone to bed, at around 10:30/11, I go downstairs and have a couple of unnecessary biscuits or cakes. If I cut these out, it will help a lot. Also, because I have two very active younger brothers, I will play a bit of football with them, or bounce and make up games on the trampoline (or just play active games that don’t feel like dull plain exercise). Good Luck, remember not to go over the top =)

Answer by S.M.
I personally never used diets to lose weight, instead I rode my bike & walked around the block sometimes. The best way I know to lose weight is to excercise for fun & remember everyone has a different body type. Like some people are big boned not fat & other people are just average weight which is good.

Answer by Lil
You are craving these things because you have over-indulged in them and now your taste buds are bland to them, they’ve developed a tolerance like heroin. There’s not much we can do to help you, I would say ask for a dietitian for Christmas, cook all your meals and snacks at home (nothing pre-packaged and laden with chemicals), walk everywhere instead of having someone drive you, drink lots of water, and cut all your meals into halves, thirds or fourths (for example, cut your pasta into three different sections and throw one section directly into the garbage). Hope I helped.

Oh, and this sounds dorky, but I like to think that inside everyone is an Adephagia (goddess of gluttony) and a Narcissus (god of narcissism, self-absorbed etc). Try to makes friends of the two parts of you (instead of trying to control gluttony), one which wants to eat, and one which wants to look good. Whenever you make a decision, decide if you’re going to indulge Adephagia or Narcissus.

ok… when i am on a diet, i tend to give up by grabbing the first chocolate bar someone offers me,and be too temped by a packet of crips….please, I just don’t feel like going on a diet, but I really really want to lose weight if you know what I mean…. can you please give me some tips as i a 5ft, 55 kilos – 121 lbs, i am a young girl….on top of that can i have some EXERCISE tips too please, thank you!
People, i am not being rude or anything, but can you please stop sending me ‘You Sound Fine As You Are’ it’s so annoying… I think I should know if i want to lose weight or not !!!!

Answer by bodtheimpaler
I can tell you one thing, if you could bottle will power you would be a multi millionaire. I have no will power and it is a real handicap in life. I wish you the best with your diet.

Answer by katehughes2706
Just buy yourself a pair of trousers one size smaller than you are now. You need an incentive to lose weight.

However, scanning through you’re question again, you dont actually need to lose any weight, you sound fine as you are.

Answer by Luvfactory
Why not eat chocolate if you want to? Why couldn’t you treat yourself to a packet of crisps every now and then? Instead, do more exercise! If you do running, cycling, swimming and other cardio exercises you could burn a lot of calories and even for upto 4 hours after your exercise you’ll be like a furnace! Eating a bit of everything in moderation is a good thing and it doesn’t make you feel like you’ve lost your willpower. Those people who never eat a cake or a sweet are boring. Anyway, a bit more exercise is very healthy just like eating chocolate is ok sometimes. You are young so out you go! Get yourself fit and healthy!

Just been diagnosed and now on 3 tablets per day – you build up over 6 days. Sugar levels are all over the place it seems no matter what I eat and feel wierd most of the time – like I need sugar and can’t have it! Any tips? I know what I should be eating as my dad was Type 2!

Answer by charmaxnojo
I had GD and getting used to the diet was really hard. But eventually you will stop craving the carbs and sugars. To curb my sugar cravings, I would have a small bowl (very small) of sugar free ice cream at night. At first I hated the tast but then got used to it and like it. I also ate the no sugar added applesauce to help my sweet tooth. I ate a lot of meat without bread (like a hamburger with no bun), a lot of veggies, not as much fruit. My plan required me to drink a glass of milk with pretty much every meal and I had to eat every two hours to keep my sugars level. It was hard and it took practice but it helped.

Answer by Pablo63
Hi there – my wife has it with child no2 – our first was born over 10lbs ! therefore it is very important that you get to a low carb / low sugar diet asap – Regular moderate intensity exercise, such as walking or cycling, can help reduce blood sugar levels and promote a sense of well being. At least 30 minutes of activity that gets you slightly breathless each day is recommended by the Department of Health.

It’s possible that your blood sugar levels will stay too high even if you make lifestyle changes. You may need daily injections of insulin if this happens. Your doctor or specialist nurse will teach you how to do this.

Answer by Skatin’
Your sugars should get better as you get more medication, but they start you slowly (metformin, right?) because if you get it all at once you have gastrointestinal distress.

For now, concentrate on switching over to 5-6 small meals a day, always with whole grains or other low-glycemic carbohydrates. Never have a carb without a protein. Get plenty of protein and veggies.

It helps to get away from sugars and sweet stuff because then you stop craving it. However, there are a few tricks. One trick I’ve used that really gives you a rich chocolate flavor is to take unsweetened cocoa powder (I like the dark chocolate variety) and mix it up with light cool whip. If you only have like a 1/4 cup at a time it’s about 30 calories and it’s not enough to raise your blood sugars. Eat it really slowly and it tastes like chocolate mousse.

Also, SF ice creams and all the products with splenda taste a LOT better than they used to! The danger is not to have too much, and as gross as it sounds, if you can have some protein at the same time as some SF ice cream it will keep your blood sugar from spiking as much. So I always make myself have like a piece of cheese first, then I have my little mug or bowl of SF ice cream.

Good luck, I know the metformin can make your stomach hurt, so hang in there. And there is always insulin! Insulin works very well in pregnancy, but I think they figure they are more likely to get women to take their medicine if they don’t have to inject it.
