Hey.

I have a 5 a side football tournament tomorrow and I’m pretty unfit. So I was wondering if anyone could give me a few tips on how to get my fitness up a little bit before hand.

I know obviously I won’t acheive anywhere near full fitness in one day but I don’t wanna get tired too easily and if I excersize too much today I could feel worse tomorrow due to muscle pain.

Answer by Jonathan
I suggest running on the treadmill for maybe 20 mins @ 7 MPH.

Answer by TruKidzTHINKfree
Nope.. too late.

Answer by Andy
You can’t gain fitness before tomorrow, I’d suggest rest today and have a sugar drink tomorrow before the match and at half time

Hi all,

Basically I, after 4 years of hard waiting for my ADHD to be cleared, can now put another application in for the British Army. I do however have to wait until September the 3rd for a supervision order to be lifted (Yes I have a criminal conviction unfortunately, all si well though, I can still join with it, considering it’s my first and only conviction) anyway so I have just under 6 weeks before I put my application in and I was wondering what sort of training should I be doing for the Paras? I know theres something called ‘milling’ a process design to test controlled aggression. So should I perhaps have test fights (safely of course) with friends? and perhaps go jogging in a few streams to get myself up to the level of fitness required? .. bit extreme maybe? I don’t know, I’m of reasonable fitness (I can sprint for a bus and not be completely knackard lol).

Also it’s not just the physical side of it’s also what tests I’ll have to do, I’ve already gone on the British Army website and completed the BARB test (max score on everything.. not trying to show off btw… lol) so do I need to be of superior intellect aswell as being able to take a good crack in the face too?

Thanks for the help all!

Kind regards,

J.Kelly.

Answer by Stephen Brewitt
I’m in the process of joining the army also, I cannot make the September intake so I as well am going in January, best thing I found was a book called “The Para Fitness Guide” by Major Sam McGrath, this has a very advanced fitness programme as well as a beginners guide. It’s what I will be using to continuously train until my basic training in January.

The book itself is £12.99 but the money is well worth it.

Hope this helped.

Answer by Beetle Bum
Woman beater! Ahaha!

Try these, http://www.paras10.com/fighting-fit.php
they might be a bit extreme so take it easy. Maybe try the Armys fitness plan first? http://www.army.mod.uk/join/20261.aspx

Im sure it would help if youre not a complete thicko and can still take a crack in the face but every towns got a village idiot!

im 13 yr old boy, any advice

Answer by .
changing your diet to only healthy foods is the best thing you can do and will ensure you will lose weight if combine with walking everyday especially.

you can eat how much you like if you stay within these 3 guidelines and still lose fat naturally and gradually. You should lose 10lbs each month on average.

1.eat only steamed lean meats, eggs, healthy fruits ,vegetables, nuts, grains, & yogurt..2. drink only water, juice, & milk..3. walk or do some physical exercise 1-3 hour every day.

(btw, recommend you also to buy an electronic food steamer ((Very cheap)) and a rice cooker as makes it very easy to prepare healthy meals ,,add a bit of olive oil and pepper, spices on top of steamed vegeatables, fish or chicken to add more taste if wish as these are healthy too.)

Answer by Sopppie g
I always find if you cut right down on carbs, especially late on in the day. Try getting a steamer and having fresh fish and veg, or even chicken. I couldn’t live without mine now.

Answer by ny
go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food after 7
p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on your
initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If you don’t
eat wheat then you don’t eat all those sticky, fatty goey cakes, you
don’t eat junk food, and you don’t eat biscuits. But your diet is
still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to calculate points or
to buy special meals or plans.

Answer by b’stardoh
Weight loss can usually be quickly achieved by removing most of the fat and starch from the diet. Check the amount of bread. potatoes, rice, cereals and reduced by half. Likewise the fats, reduce by half, and go easy on the cheese.

What else?

Stoke up on fresh fruit and vegetables. What does this do? It makes the body move faster and there is masses of free energy released when eating lots of fruit which is full of natural sugar. What vegetables? Lots of cabbages, onions, carrots, turnips, swedes etc.

Have fun but remember do not remove anything from your present diet which you crave. Just remove half. Get used to eating one slice of bread with no butter or marge with your soup etc.

You’re doing exactly what you should – exercise for a longer lasting life.

Never too old to keep fit

I’m 17 and I don’t actually know how much I weigh, I’m not fat but not skinny either. I’m not going on any type of specific diet, I’m just cutting down on snacks and cutting junk food out of my diet. I only want to lose a few pounds and i’m in no hurry to do so.

I want to improve my fitness and everyone says cardio is good, for both weight loss and fitness. What is cardio? Can you give me some examples of good exercises to build up my fitness and lose some weight please?

Answer by Coop
1) stop eating rubbish food as u said
2) start going for a jog a few times a week , say a mile to start out. Then build up to 2 mile ( doesn’t matter if u need to stop from time to time for a rest) Mebs build up to 3 times a week , u should start seeing a difference , u don’t need to eat much less , don’t starve yr self this is very bad for u ,

Answer by Biz
1). I cut off soda *coke in particular*
2). I cut off dessert only 2 nights a week
3). I’m im a running club.

Answer by honesty_counts
Just go for a long walk each night, the legs are the biggest muscle in your body so by exercising them a lot you will burn up a lot of stored fat, plus get a lot more fit. In my neighborhood there is a public library 2 miles away so I walk to that library, read a magazine or two, then walk back home. That’s more than enough to become fit and healthy, plus its free.

Hiya – need some tips for weight loss – but fractured a hip four months ago (had operation with a plate, screws and pin put in), plus have plantar faciitis (very painful heels), tendonitis in ankles and pain in lower back – all probably weight related, but makes exercise very difficult – anyone else suffered from pain when simply walking and what can I do to exercise and lose weight? Does anyone know any motivational websites I could look at for weight loss (not ones that are selling stuff) – answers would be sooo appreciated – thanks!!

Answer by ketkeshanorris
i think that brisk walking works fpr any one. try going for walks at least 2 times a day for about 20-30 minutes each this will help your circulatory system function attiquately and you will have enough energy to do more exercise if you want. i allways say start with walking and try to create exercises that make you feel comfortable.

Answer by dognhorsemom
It isn’t easy, but walk anyway. The more you favor your pains, the worse they will get. Get some excellent, well-padded shoes and get out there. Borrow a dog if you want company and motivation.

Worked for me.

And a couple of Bufferin afterward didn’t hurt, either.

Answer by h_brida
When my knees begin hurting when I climb stairs I know it’s time to lighten my load. Switching to a smaller purse is only a temporary measure.

I don’t watch Richard Simmons regularly, but one time I did he gave advice to a person confined to bed “If you can’t do anything else, move your arms. After a few weeks you’ll be able to use hand-held weights.”

Muscle burns energy even when you’re sleeping. I’d suggest beginning with exercising what you *can* exercise.

Answer by Masto
run or exercise at least 30 minutes a day. do your push-ups (mandatory). stay away from sugar-rich food and carbohydrates.

good luck.

Answer by lewis O
If you need to get fit here are the best tips. The best type of exercise is runnig, go out for one late at night, when no ones about. You need to run for about a min of 20 mins at least three times a week to improve, make sure you run at your own pace so you dont half to stop within the twenty minutes

Answer by wishing4beauty
well if you are joining the army you are going to be running loads so i suggest lots of running

Answer by jojo78
first of all join a gym and do lots of cardio i.e the cross trainer, treadmill, bike etc and just try and not eat after seven oclock in the evening, if you get hungry eat fruit, i lost three stone doing this and stuck to this religiously, i ate really well in the week, fresh fish, pasta, salads and fruit with six glasses of water a day and i went out every weekend, drank what i wanted and ate what i wanted and still lost the weight, excersise is very important so make that the number one priority
good luck

hi im 15 years old a wishes to become a boxer. i get up at 6am a go for a jog for 1 hour i would go for 2 but school is a problem. Then i do sit-up n press ups around 20 times each. im geting my garage converted into a gym soon. i just need a few tip for the time being.

Thanks
AND ive go a boxing bag wich i do for an hour.

Answer by G.O.A.T.
You can work out as much as you want and hit the punching bag for as long as you’d like but without the proper technic, your really doing more harm than good by making your body used to improper motions, i cant tell you exactly what to do during your workout but you might wanna check this site out and it could help you out a little bit. Good Luck.

Answer by WMC-90
Well i do boxing too, i dont really want to become a boxer though, i have been training for almost 2 years now. The main things i can tell you is to always breath properly while working out, otherwise you may get a stitch or drain energy. Also every 10 minutes take in a mouthfull of water, wash it around in ur mouth and swallow, so you will get a better drink without drinking too much.

Good Boxing training include: Skipping, Shadow (Imagine someone is infront of you trying to punch you), Sidestep with your left or right foot in front depending on whether your southpaw or orthodox, drag you back foot across and go in circles fast and slow. If you calf muscles hurt alot your doing it right, this helps agility and footwork too. Speedball is very good. and well you know the rest. Hope this helped!
