I’ve lived in a privately rented home with my daughter for about a year and a half but its not really big enough for the price of it and would like to get a council home so that i can guarantee home safety and a permanent home for myself and my child. However, people are telling me that its extremely difficult to get on the council list and i would like to know how i could go about it as i really dont want to privately rent for the rest of my life, its way too expensive!

Answer by Who
You apply and join the queue

What you want and what you can afford have nothing to do with anything.

Answer by Kernow Lady
I suppose most people would contact the Council housing department, what else would they do. ?
Unfortunately your daughter could be leaving school before you are allocated a place as there are thousands of homeless on the waiting lists.
UK

Answer by Deattie
The UK council waiting list is not first come first served. It is based on points, where people in difficult circumstances get more points and get housed quicker (ie jump the queue). For example single mums with a couple of kids who are about to get kicked out of home get lots of points. You need to ask the council for an explanation of the points scoring system. Then put yourself into a situation where you get the most points.

Answer by Lili
Well, St. Michael is the patron saint of police officers and soldiers, and he happens to be an angel — if you believe in angels. Very effective, so they say, against demons:

Answer by Innit
St Christopher is the one you want.

Answer by Mountain Dweller
Feng shui, patron saints, and angels — wow, you’re looking into every mystical belief system. Try a nice 45 Glock. I find having a gun around is great security against danger.

Hi all, I’ve been “adopted” by my next door neighbours cat. They have two small children and often put the cat out both for its own safety and for practicalities sake. They still love her and feed her, but during the day she has started wandering over to my house for a little attention. Now I love cats so she is always welcome here – and I’ve been very careful *not* to feed her so she will always return home at the end of the day. She often just seems to want company and comes and lies on my desk while I work at my computer. My neighbour has no problem with this as they know where she is and are happy that she’s getting attention that sometimes they don’t have the time to give.

However, lately she has started to spend more and more time with me – and sometimes even curls up in the corner overnight. Again I have no problem with this, but I’m beginning to feel guilty that next door aren’t seeing her very often. How can I encourage her to go home without p*ssing her off?
Just to reiterate – I don’t want to push the cat away completely (my neighbours like the fact that she comes here as much as I do) – I just want to encourage her to come here less often.

But I’m beginning to realise that the “don’t let her in” is the most obvious answer! (in fact I feel quite stupid for asking now!) I just can’t help it when she’s crying at my back door ya know?

Answer by cheeba N
Wrap her in a bag & put it in ur neighbours’ house thru the window!!lol 7aram

Answer by lolly
i think you should not let her in so often, it’s obvious you love her and like to spend time with her but you have to be a little hard on yourself

Answer by FreakGirl
ouch – thats a bad situation. i guess you could start ummm…. putting out food in between your houses or just shutting the door a bit more often.

gd luck with the cat…

what are the specifications required to build and use an home made traliler on the uks roads by law.
are their required to any types of safety test done or any type of VIC checks and do you need a licence a part from a full UK one . And do you need a Trailer s insurance As well And road tax to keep a Trailer on the road when you are not using it AND IS a old car with a seized engine classed as a Trailer ? help

Answer by Jon
No special license is needed to draw a trailer behind a car (but one is needed to tow one behind a minibus, bus, or large goods vehicle). Provisional licence holders cannot tow trailers.

Trailers do not need separate insurance, but you should check that you car insurance policy does not specifically exclude towing one (some cheap policies do).

A trailer does not have a motor and therefore motor vehicle excise duty (sometimes wrongly called ‘road tax’) does not apply to it.

A home-made trailer must comply with the relevant parts of the Vehicle Construction and Use Regulations – either look these up and check or (safer) get a qualified mechanic to inspect the trailer before using it. Key points are:
- bearings and tyres must be capable of coping with driving at speed.
- there must be rear lights, repeater brake lights and a number plate fitted (showing the towing vehicle’s number).
- there are max. and min. weight limits (the minimum weight limit is because a very light trailer could flip over in a high wind).

I suppose a non-running car on tow would count as a trailer, although it would not be usual for one to show the towing vehicle’s number plate or have repeater brake lights.

I am looking to start my own cake making and decorating business in the UK, based at my home.

Does anyone know if this type of business is subject to the same food safety rules & regulations as any other catering business?

Thanks

Answer by i-resources
Hi,

Yes it is, firstly you should contact your local authority and inform them that you intend to you your premises for a commercial purpose.

You then need to inform the environmental health department and inform them of your intentions, they will normally arrange an inspection of your property which will become an annual occurrence (the same as any restaurant or pub)

Search for the FSA website which will give you guidelines on food legislation.

If you are having a lot of people coming in and out of your home you might also want to look into taking out additional insurance.

Answer by Ansell A
It would be subject to a number of rules and regulations.
Your local council would be able to assist with these as it is they who have to enforce them.

a

Answer by Rosemary P
Speak to your local Business Link. They have all the information you need on food hygiene and will guide you through starting your business. Their help is free and they’ll support you after you’re up and running, too. We’ve used them over the years.

You’ll need to make contact with your local environmental health people, too, but Business Link will have the right contacts for that. Make friends with the environmental health people and you’ll be fine. Ignore them and at some point they’ll jump all over you. That’s been the advice from friends in the food industry.

You may need planning permission for running your business from home. It depends on how much of it you’re using for your business and whether you’re having customers turn up there. Again, Business Link can advise.

You definitely will need insurance. Speak to someone like AXA. They offer policies for businesses run from home and from premises. We’ve used them for both.

The other thing is to set up a separate bank account for your business. Keep your business and personal finances separate.

Good luck!

Answer by Moma Dancer
If it’s the stuff used while doing stained glass, you can get rid of it in your regular trash. If you have a lot of it, most communities waste pick up will take hazardous materials so long as they are well contained and well marked. You could always call the waste management company in your area and find out their policies.

Answer by spunk113
You have two options for disposing of pickle:
1) Save it up and contact your local hazardous waste pick up people to take it away.
2) Pour it down the drain and pretend it was never there.

I recommend option one, myself.

Answer by phoebe1990
Yesss I think it’s The Way Back…about those people in Siberia that walk thousands of miles to India to escape a prison camp or something similar. Starring: Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris, Colin Farrell and Saoirse Ronan
