As I’m just starting out, I can’t afford too much, so one of those Canon EOS cameras are out… and I hate how Nikons come out like… plus I’ve had two Kodaks and I’m just not happy with them… don’t know why though… so what camera would be suitible for learning and starting out being a pro photography and editor?

Answer by piratesofmaddness
nikons do really well you dont want to go to cheap because you want it to grow with you.
i currently use a nikon and it does really well. before that i had an old just manual camera and it also did well it allowed for more freedom then the fancy thing i have now.

Answer by fivetoze
try fuji. a 5600 (5mp) is around 120-150 quid and does full frame video, with sound.

lens is 35-380mm
shhutter speeds 15 seconds to 1000
f2.8 to f8..
iso/asa 100 to 1600

i teach photography, and i supply these cameras to my students. apart from the pitiful F2.8 to F8 range, this is a great little camera, and at 5mp it’ll produce good images.

the fuji 9600 is 300 quid… and i use an olympus E500…but at 500 quid its a tad expensive… but worth every penny…

Answer by imadriana
Before you buy another camera, try investing in some good photo-editing software. Really. I use several programs for editing because I’ve never found just one program I really liked for everything.

So, unless your cameras are one of the first generation of digital cameras, you may just need to get better editing software. Also, if you plan on editing pics, make sure you adjust your picture quality to the highest setting.

Check out cnet.com for reviews on software and cameras. To get cheaper software, look around on E-Bay and Amazon.com. There are also several editing programs that are free. The only one of the free ones I’ve used is called The Gimp. It’s pretty cool.

Truly, if you don’t have good photo-editing software that you’re comfortable with using, it really won’t matter what type of camera you get. You’ll never be happy with the results.

Good luck!

Answer by veito da costa
When you say ‘Professional’, do you mean Hasselblad, or a Nikon D3x, or entry level DSLR’s costing about £400?

Actually, how much do you want to spend?

LCE are good, if there is one in your area.

http://www.lcegroup.co.uk/

If you want entry level, then you cant beat the K-x which is the best at the moment, and a great price.

Warehouse Express;

I use Calumet & WE for buying most of my lighting/studio equipment. Reliable, no problems so far.

Answer by John P
Calumet is one professional dealer with several branches in the UK.

I hope you know the sort of equipment you want to buy, since whoever you deal with will talk professional language.

Make sure you deal with a ‘legitimate’ organisation, we see reports from time to time of pro equipment stolen, somebody must then be trying to sell it.

I would love to be a teacher in a college or a sixth form. I am just finishing my degree in editoral and advertising photography and I would like to pass on my love to others. I have had a tough time at university doing my degree so i don’t think that i am going to get the best grade. However I love my subject so much i haven’t quit I have just dug in and carried on. I need to do a postgraduate course Which I want to do whilst teaching. Are there any colleges or places looking for someone with my level of education and dedication? I am good to start as soon as possible and I will move home and country if thats what it takes to do what I want.

Answer by m
erm try the colleges in orpington and bromley, u neva know if not that, just ring up and ask different colleges

Answer by Rebecca
there will be lots of community learning centres and colleges who would probably run some part-time/leisure courses in that subject – you should try writing to them all, telling them what experience/equipment etc you have.
from what i have seen most photography courses are run as leisure classes rather than acedemic so it won’t really matter about your degree results as long as you have the necessary experiences and skills.

Answer by Freddie F
You will need at least a level 3 City & Guilds in adult education with a view to level 4 if you wish to teach young adults and a full Police check. It’s unlikely that you will find anything full time.

hi, i want to get a new camera for my photography a level course im taking. i dont want a 500 pound one as they are highly out of my price range. i want a simple and easy to use camera that will get the job done, fujifilm seems the best option at the moment. help, advice, and tips are appreciated thanks.

Answer by fhotoace
Sorry to tell you, but Fujifilm no longer makes dSLR cameras.

You will need a fully adjustable camera for your classes, so look at the Nikon D3100 or Canon 1100D, both under your budget Use the spare money to buy some 4 gb memory cards, about four of five of them

Getting the job done will require you to be able to manually adjust the ISO, shutter speed and lens aperture at a minimum and using interchangeable lenses as you get further into your photography classes.

Here is how that all works

http://camerasim.com/camera-simulator.html

Answer by CiaoChao
Well the only suitable Fujifilm I can think of is the X100, and since that’s around £1000, I’m guessing you’re not thinking of the same one. In which case I can say you’re probably not looking at the right type of cameras.

You need to look for a camera with a large sensor and interchangeable lenses. Something like a Canon 40D (second hand) with 17-85mm lens would be well suited. You could also consider getting a 40D body and then buying a Sigma 30mm f1.4.

Answer by Left L
Fujifilm X10 is a highly advanced compact camera with specifications that follow in the footsteps of the multi award-winning Fujifilm FinePix X100 (released in March 2011): the ultimate in refined design, components, functions and specification. Featuring a bright optical zoom viewfinder with a wide viewing angle, the X10 allows users to enjoy the pleasure of photography via a traditional viewfinder, providing all the benefits and ease of composition that this brings.

Answer by Jonathan K
I was just about to ask this question…

++++++++
Ok, well I’m 14, and I haven’t found any. So here is what I did…
I made a Flickr account. And then I uploaded any of my pictures that are good to the Flickr.

If you do, add me as a contact

++++++++

Answer by ChaoRingmeister
dpreview.com have their challenges section, which are challenges set by people for people.

Also there is the strobist BootCamp II. Plus plenty of comps in magazines and stuff.

I am 16 and really confused about what a levels to do. I have put down psychology, government and politics, media studies and photography. I also can change them later on i think.

Answer by LilMissHappy
Maybe. Law schools usually look to see if candidates have chosen “traditional” subjects, eg. history, maths, geography etc rather than subjects like media studies or photography. Its completely your choice of course but it really depends on the uni you want to go to. If i were you i’d choose a few uni’s and then call them up and see what are their preferences before you make final choices
Hope this helped

Answer by j.
I would probably chose between media studies and photography but it is entirely up to you. I would agree with the comment above though that Universities will probably be looking for you to take more traditional subjects. Having said that I don’t think having one subject that was a bit more creative or modern would be a problem.

Hey you guys i had an idea to promote my photography business by getting a microphone and setting up a portable studio for prospective clients on the highstreet to have their pictures taken. I’d use the microphone to pitch to people on the highstreet. If you were a prospective client what would you think and would this work on you?
If not please say why.
If it would work for you please say why.
If it would stop you putting money forward please say why it would

Answer by Perki88
I would be totally embarrassed to respond to a pitchman shouting over a microphone!

Answer by John G
try getting a pitch in a shopping mall / centre , indoors you have a better chance of talking / stopping people, you can also put up a stand displaying your work, and give out a 15% discount on all bookings taken to day ..also get local radio to do a phone in quiz where the winner gets a free portrait this way you will get free advertisements to tell everyone about your buisness and where you are set up

Answer by green_lantern5353
I’d shy away from anyone using this idea. If I were out walking or shopping I wouldn’t be dressed to have a picture taken. Women would be worried about their hair and makeup. Besides reducing the art of photography to a carnival side show, I for one wouldn’t want to be in an open-air, public, situation when my portrait is made. The technique that you describe would work fine if you’re doing t-shirts at the fair though. If you really think this would work though, feel free to set up your stand next to the one where you can get plastic surgery while you wait. I understand their prices are always “cut rate.”
