Sorry to tell you, but Fujifilm no longer makes dSLR cameras.
You will need a fully adjustable camera for your classes, so look at the Nikon D3100 or Canon 1100D, both under your budget Use the spare money to buy some 4 gb memory cards, about four of five of them
Getting the job done will require you to be able to manually adjust the ISO, shutter speed and lens aperture at a minimum and using interchangeable lenses as you get further into your photography classes.
Here is how that all works

Well the only suitable Fujifilm I can think of is the X100, and since that’s around £1000, I’m guessing you’re not thinking of the same one. In which case I can say you’re probably not looking at the right type of cameras.
You need to look for a camera with a large sensor and interchangeable lenses. Something like a Canon 40D (second hand) with 17-85mm lens would be well suited. You could also consider getting a 40D body and then buying a Sigma 30mm f1.4.

Fujifilm X10 is a highly advanced compact camera with specifications that follow in the footsteps of the multi award-winning Fujifilm FinePix X100 (released in March 2011): the ultimate in refined design, components, functions and specification. Featuring a bright optical zoom viewfinder with a wide viewing angle, the X10 allows users to enjoy the pleasure of photography via a traditional viewfinder, providing all the benefits and ease of composition that this brings.
