Academic Survival Skills
Being an active listener:
1. Move closer to the front, so won’t have any trouble seeing, hearing, or paying attention.
2. Focus your attention on what the speaker is saying – not on the upcoming weekend, etc.
3. Evaluate what you hear: Think about what the speaker’s words mean or relate to what you already know about the subject.
4. Take notes since it is impossible for even the best of listeners to remember all that’s been said.
5. Ask questions ? about anything you don’t understand.
