There are all kinds of educational baby games. Like, singing. Or, there is always the computer… By teaching your kid to use a computer, you’re giving him a head start in life! < (^^)>
songs, shape blocks, those alphabet puzzles, etc. there is tons of stuff
p.s. while 15 months is too young obviosly to use a computer, in the future it is a great idea to introduce your child to using the computer (with supervision of course). Technology is being used more and more in schools (and in life) and is a great tool.
Read, sing, play!
Talk to him like a little person *most of the time.*
Don’t dumb down your language, just make it age appropriate and explain everything when he looks confused.
We started Hooked on Phonics at 2.5 with our girls and it was GREAT. I cannot say enough about that product. My girls loved it.
We also made up songs and games to learn spelling and meaning. We started with their first/middle/last names. We did ABC’s with sounds and words: “A is for Apple and sounds like AAA, B is for Banana and sounds like Ba!” all through the alphabet.
We talked about how everything worked (and still do). “Look at that garbage truck. “See how that big machine lifts the cans and dumps the trash into the truck!” “Look how Mommy folds the towels and puts them where they belong.”
Just be talkative and play games and make up your own games. If it’s fun and interesting then he will learn.
Have you tried putting your subtitles on when your television is on? Used to fascinate my kid when he was younger. Great way of learning to read and spell when your little boy is a bit older. My son still does it now and he is 11 years old! (It drives me nuts, mind!)
sing him the abc’s, sing songs
show him pictures of shapes and numbers and colors
