I just bought my bf a bag of his favorite candy and a the " i <3 u" peeps. Which might be small enough if you don't want to over dramatize the event. then let him know that you are planning something small so he knows he should put some thought into what to get you. The rest of the night you can plan and just let him know that what they are . This way he won't feel like he's gonna fail you if you don't like what he's thought up . I suggest you go to his house or your house and do something together like watching a funny movie. Then you know , be comfortable around him more then sooner or later he'll break his shell.
