Not sure if you are in the UK or not, but I am a Foster Carer in the UK and we have to have Full Medicals every three years as well as the Police check.
After the initial Induction Courses we also have to attend at least three Child Care Courses each year, so as to keep up with everything.
As far as your home goes you will require: –
Stair Gates, if you have a staircase.
1st Aid Kit
Locked Medical cabinet to keep all medicines safe.
All cleaning chemicals kept safely away out of childe sight & reach.
A secure Draw or some other place to keep all paperwork relating to the child(ren).
Have a walk around your home and imagine how a two or three year old would be. If you think they are able to hurt their selves on something, then make it safe.
Of course, it is not possible to make a totally safe environment, as children at that age will still hurt their selves whatever you do. But make it as safe as possible.
For your Car: –
The Law requires you to have Full Seat belts all round, Booster seats for young and very small children.
You must also notify your Car Insurance Company that you carry Foster Children.
I also always carry a 1st Aid kit.
I think most states have guidelines for approval of childcare centers before you can open a one. Whether you need to worry about this depends on how many children you are going to take care of .
I don’t know what the department handling the licensing of childcare centers is called in your state but you could contact a local child nursery or childcare center in your area and ask them who you should call. The state or local agency will have a list that they can give you which will spell out what you need to have in your home before you can take in children.
If you are looking at childminding then the best thing you can do is ring Ofsted and ask them for details. You do need a CRB check, as does everyone else over the age of 16 who lives with you but there are a whole load of things you need to take into consideration-Ofsted can send you details.Try their website-www.ofsted.org.uk.Theres sections on that about starting up.Good luck!!
adequate space for children to play.
No outside obstructions, where children get hurt, say garden tools,
and above all enough staff to cover, with requiste qualifications
if you are doing this single handed and its more than one child you
may need to revise your plans.
They may also need to see a hardwired fire alarm
Temperature sets on hot water taps.
Cooking – hygiene
sufficient adults for number of children
Best to check with your local council and just ask them
that way you will know for sure.
